3 New Wines for 2020, First: "Kay-Sera"

We have three new wines for the 2020 season! It is always incredibly enjoyable working on new wines: from tasting the grapes in the vineyard, blending, and dreaming up the label designs. Since we weren’t able to open on schedule and you can’t taste it onsite yet, we will show them here and then you will be able to taste later! Without further adieu, let us introduce the first: “Kay-Sera”.

First off, it is pronounced “kay sir-ah” and the inspiration for the name comes from the classic Doris Day song from the 1950s, “Que Sera, Sera” which loosely translates to “whatever will be, will be”. It is a beautiful song (seriously, look it up- it’s wonderful) with a meaning that is close to our hearts in the vineyard and with wine making. Both of these areas have involved plenty of trial and error as first generation grape growers/winemakers, and one of our favorite sayings we have adopted (and use often) is “let’s try it and see what happens”. The label is gorgeous with plenty of gold embossing and peonies in the corners drawn by our artist, mom.

Kay-Sera is a dry rosé made from the St. Vincent grape. It has more dark pink shades as opposed to orange or lighter takes you might see on the rosé color wheel (see below). It’s color is most similar to an Italian Sangiovese rosé. This vibrant wine will give you a mouth full of crisp, ripe red fruit flavors such as strawberry and cranberry. We enjoy it chilled.

The wine was ultimately inspired by adventures to Old World wine regions (see “Dale Hollow Goes to Italy”. These experiences heavily influenced the making of this wine and the trip captured the essence of “whatever will be will be”; which we hope to catch in the bottle!

Of course, we had no idea that this wine would also be introduced during a global shutdown. For us, the name of the wine also symbolizes optimism. “Whatever will be, will be” helps us to remember that much of life and its worries are outside of our control. For all of those fans of dry rosé, we encourage you to try this wine; it can now be purchased through the virtual winery for curbside pickup and local delivery: www.dalehollowwinery.com/shop and eventually when we can open to full retail operations.

Raise your glasses and toast to “que sera, sera”!
